The House

Maple & Main sits on a quiet residential street in Fayetteville, about a six-tenths-mile walk from downtown — close enough to stroll to dinner at Pies & Pints or coffee at Cathedral Café, then walk home through a neighborhood that actually feels like one. The trailheads, rafting put-ins, and climbing the New River Gorge is known for are a short drive away, so you spend your days out on the river and the rock and your evenings back here with the whole group.

Built in 1948 and updated where it counts, the house kept the character that made it worth keeping in the first place. Inside it's warm and easy — an oversized sectional and cognac leather chairs in a living room built for the whole group to pile into, and a kitchen with room for four people to be useful at once. Bedrooms are a king, a queen with its own bath, and a Base Camp bunk room that sleeps eight.
Out back is a half-acre most people don't expect this close to town: a fire pit, a deck with the grill, and a yard with room for cornhole while someone puts music on inside. It's the house for the annual trip everyone keeps meaning to take — where the best part of the night usually happens after the whole group gets home from the gorge.
