Adventures on the Gorge — the area's main hub for whitewater rafting, zip lines, rock climbing, and aerial obstacles — is a 0.3-mile walk from the back door of this house. Canyon Rim Visitor Center is 1.2 miles, about 3 minutes by car. That's not marketing math. That's the actual address, at the top of Ames Heights Road, sitting right at the edge of everything this region is known for.
Walk to rafting. Drive to the bridge. Come back to a space that holds the whole group together.
The Ames Mining Company built this house in 1945, back when coal fueled the Gorge. Now it's adrenaline — and this fully remodeled home sits right in the middle of it. Inside, it's open and bright: a light-filled living room that flows into the dining area, two full bathrooms that make seven people feel like a manageable number, and a kitchen built for a big breakfast before a big day on the water. Outside, there's a fire pit. The Swiftwater Cafe is 350 feet from the door if mornings call for coffee you didn't have to make.
This is the home for people who came to the Gorge to actually do things. The location handles the logistics — the house handles the rest.

Three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and an outdoor fire pit. Here's what you're walking into.
Warm lighting, quality linens, and a room that actually lets you sleep after a full day on the river. Designed for rest — not just occupancy.
Comfortable, light, and well-equipped. Enough space to unpack and settle in rather than live out of a bag for the weekend.
Flexible enough for kids, a couple, or two friends who don't want to share. The whole house is designed so a group of seven doesn't feel crowded.
Stocked for real cooking or quick breakfasts before you head out. Open to the dining and living area so no one gets exiled to the kitchen while others are having fun.
Seats the full group. Whether it's a post-raft dinner or a slow Sunday breakfast, there's room for everyone at the table and enough chairs so no one eats on the couch.
The front deck is where the day winds down. A propane fire pit and outdoor seating make it the right setup for the evening debrief after a full day at the Gorge.
A well-stocked home with the things that matter — especially when you're planning a full day on the river and need to move fast in the morning.

Check AvailabilityAdventure Haven sits at the top of Ames Heights Road — the same road that leads directly down to Adventures on the Gorge. That 0.3-mile walk puts you at the launch point for whitewater rafting, zip lines, rock climbing, and aerial obstacle courses before most vacation rentals in the area have even finished their commute. Canyon Rim Visitor Center and the New River Gorge Bridge are 1.2 miles away — about 3 minutes by car. This is the closest any vacation rental gets to the region's main attractions without requiring a car every time.
This was a really neat house. It was situated just a short drive from all the things you can do in the area. It's also walkable to a general store that is incredible – great for coffee, sandwiches and swag. The house itself is immaculate, comfortable mattresses, and a great front porch with a fire pit. For showerhead nerds like me, you'll like the water pressure. This will be our go to spot in the area whenever it is available.
Elizabeth was an incredible host. The home was spotless and so beautifully decorated! Beds and linens were perfect! This is a gem in the middle of country roads and so close to every hike and whitewater rafting that we were there for! Downtown restaurants were a 7 minute drive. We would love to go back!
Perfect location for exploring the New River Gorge area. We stayed here using it as our base when visiting state parks, visiting family, and riding the river. Beds were very comfortable and coffee was provided. Enjoyed sitting on the front porch at night. Great visit and hope to be back soon!
Planning your New River Gorge adventure and want to know before you book? Here's the honest version.
It really is — 0.3 miles, about five to seven minutes on foot. AOTG is the main hub for whitewater rafting, zip lines, rock climbing, and aerial obstacles. You can walk out the front door and be on the river before most people have figured out where to park.
The Bridge and Canyon Rim Visitor Center are 1.2 miles away — about a three-minute drive. The BridgeWalk check-in is right there too. It’s the kind of proximity that makes everything feel easy and unhurried, even when your days are full.
7 guests across three bedrooms and two full bathrooms. Two bathrooms for a group of seven is one of those details that doesn’t sound important until you’re really glad it’s there — and you will be.
Adventure Haven isn’t the right fit for pets. If you’re traveling with dogs, the Gorge Getaway in Oak Hill has a fully fenced yard and was genuinely set up with them in mind — it’s the one to book for that trip.
Check-in is at 4 PM, check-out at 11 AM. The smart lock takes care of arrival — your access code arrives before you do, so you can pull in, get settled, and let the trip begin on your own time.
You save 10–15% on service fees, and you’re talking to Elizabeth directly from the moment you book — not waiting on a platform to pass along a message. Same house, better price, and someone who actually knows every trail, outfitter, and hidden gem in the gorge.
Parking for up to five cars. Full details and directions are in your welcome guide, which arrives with your booking confirmation.
The full terms are at checkout before you confirm anything — so you’ll know exactly what you’re agreeing to before you book. We’re a small, personal operation and we want you to feel good about every part of the process. Questions? Just ask Elizabeth.
No — pack for the adventure, not the laundry.
